We’re Megan and Heather, the duo behind Harmony Hydration, and we are so glad you’re here.
When people ask us what we do, we usually start with "we make soap." But if we’re being honest, it’s so much more than that. It’s about that "Maker Mom" energy: that drive to create something safe, beautiful, and effective for our families and then realizing we want to share that magic with our neighbors here in Centralia and beyond.

How It All Began: From Gift Baskets to Business
Every business has a "spark" moment, and ours happened right in the middle of a family holiday season. We’ve always been the type of people who prefer a handmade gift over something plucked off a big-box store shelf. There’s just something about a gift that was stirred, scented, and wrapped by hand that says "I care about you" in a way a plastic gift card never could.
We started out by putting together elaborate gift baskets for our family members. We’d spend hours thinking about what would make our sisters, moms, and aunts feel truly pampered. Naturally, we started experimenting with natural skincare products. We wanted things that smelled amazing but didn't come with a list of ingredients we couldn't pronounce.
The feedback from our family was overwhelming. They didn't just like the products; they started asking for refills. That was our "aha!" moment. We take a lot of pride in the fact that Harmony Hydration is a true 50/50 partnership. Right now, it’s a pretty even split on how we handle everything. From the literal "heavy lifting" of moving lye and oils to the delicate work of piping bath mousse, we share the load.
One of us might be deep in a batch of soap while the other is updating the website or prepping for a community market. Having that balance is what keeps us going. We’re both "Maker Moms," which means our "business meetings" often happen while kids are napping or playing in the background. We understand the hustle of modern motherhood, and having a partner to share that load with makes all the difference. It’s about balance, support, and a shared vision for what natural self-care should look like.

The "Why" behind Harmony Hydration is simple: We use these products on ourselves and our own families. Living in Centralia, Illinois, we’re part of a community that values hard work and authenticity. When we started looking closely at the labels of commercial "beauty bars" and lotions, we weren't happy with what we saw. Synthetic detergents, harsh preservatives, and artificial foaming agents were the norm.
We wanted better for our kids' skin and for our own. By focusing on pure ingredients like tallow, lard, and plant-based oils, we found that our skin didn't just look better: it felt better.

A Glimpse into the Process
If you walked into our workspace on a typical Tuesday, you’d likely find us surrounded by a rainbow of colors and scents. We love the artistry of soap making. It’s a science, sure, but it’s also a medium for creativity.
Take our artisan soap bars, for example. We love playing with neon swirls of pink, orange, and green. There is something so satisfying about pouring a batch and seeing those colors come together. Each bar is hand-cut and allowed to cure for weeks to ensure it’s hard, long-lasting, and gentle on the skin. It’s a slow process, but we believe that the best things in life take time.
Whether it’s the swirling black and cream colors of a new batch or the precise "top" of a soap mold filled with embeds, we are involved in every single step. There are no machines or mass-production lines here: just two sets of hands and a whole lot of love.

Over time, our line has expanded far beyond those initial gift baskets. While soap remains our first love, we’ve leaned into the world of self-care gifts in a big way. We want Harmony Hydration to be your go-to for treating yourself or finding that perfect gift for a friend.
One of our absolute favorites to make is our Hand-Crafted Whipped Tallow Lotion. Tallow is an old-school ingredient that has made a huge comeback for a reason: it’s incredibly compatible with human skin. We love adding fun, whimsical scents to our collection, like Rainbow Sherbet, Butterbeer, and Astral Pumpkin.
We also have a blast creating our bath products. From bubbling bath salts to our blue and green bath bombs, these are designed to turn a standard Tuesday night bath into a spa-like experience. For us, self-care isn't about being selfish; it's about refilling your own cup so you can continue to pour into others. As moms, we know exactly how important that 20 minutes of peace in the tub can be!
Connecting with Centralia
While we love being an e-commerce shop, our hearts are truly in our local community. There is nothing like the energy of a local vendor event. We love setting up our booth, layering the checkered tablecloths, and arranging our tallow balm tins and bubble wands for everyone to see.
Seeing a customer’s face light up when they smell a scent that reminds them of a childhood memory, or hearing from a regular about how our soap helped their dry skin, is why we do what we do. We try to keep our prices affordable: usually ranging from $5 to $10: because we believe natural skincare shouldn't be a luxury reserved for a few. It should be accessible to everyone in our neighborhood.
